We have strong beliefs about how to make the web work for people. Our prioritisation of usability and accessibility allows as many people as possible to use your site easily and effectively.
Usability
We believe that people come to your site wanting information and that people will leave if they can't find it. Having a site which contains the information people want and which makes it easy for them to find that information is vitally important. Having animations on a site only distracts the visitor from looking for what they want to find.
Accessibility
Accessibility is about whether it is possible for disabled people to use the web. Many web developers ignore accessibility entirely, assuming that they are only losing about 1% of visitors who are blind. Even if this were true, ignoring those users would be a mistake. But it is estimated that 70% of web users have some sort of disability, which might be visual, motor or cognitive. The most common is poor visibility, which most people will fix by increasing the font size in their browser. But many site designs break when the fonts are changed. Our sites are designed with accessibility in mind.
Updating Content
Nearly as bad as not being able to find what you want on a site is finding that the information is out of date. Many sites are clearly not updated after they are first created. This is usually because updating sites is difficult and can only be done by one skilled person within an organisation, or by the original developer.
Based on our own content management system, all the content on our sites can easily be updated through a simple web interface. This means that updating can be done by the people responsible for content of the site.
